Sick of the same old gym workout? Burnout Boxing is here to spice things up.
Fitting exercise into your busy schedule can be tough, but when you find a class that you enjoy, you’ll feel so much better for it (and actually stick to it).
Exercise has many benefits, including improving cardiovascular health, increasing energy levels, and enhancing mental well-being. If, like the High Life North team, you work from home or find yourself always behind a desk, getting up and moving will likely make your workday more enjoyable and your brain more switched on.
There are all sorts of new fitness classes in Newcastle popping up, with lots of new ways to get active and enjoy working out. Finding the right one for you that fits into your day is like hitting the jackpot.
I came across Burnout Boxing, a new Newcastle boxing class and saw that they had a week’s free trial, so I gave it a try.
I loved it, and I’ve signed up for more. Here’s why you should try it out…

THE CONCEPT OF THESE NEW NEWCASTLE BOXING CLASSES
Burnout Boxing classes are just 30 minutes long, with a mix of boxing, core, and cardio – unlike endless feeling gym workouts. It’s non-stop, but the class feels like it flies by, and it doesn’t take too much time out of your busy schedule.
They have slots throughout the day, so you can always find a time that works for you. The team is welcoming, knowledgeable, and keen to help you achieve your fitness aims. The location is perfect too – based in Camperdown near Killingworth, it helps you avoid rush hour traffic.
THE BURNOUT BOXING VIBE
The space is ideal to get you in the zone for the class and focus on your workout.
It’s dark but with funky LED lights that move with the music. The playlist is on point to keep you motivated and the instructors guide you through all the punches and movements.
I didn’t feel judged for not knowing what to do or if I needed a rest. Instead I was motivated to push through and get the most from the class. One of the things that stood out to me at Burnout Boxing is that the walls aren’t covered in mirrors, and the punching bags are lined up along the exterior wall, so you can focus on your area rather than worrying about being watched.
Gloves are provided during your trial, and if you sign up for a Gold or Knockout membership, you’ll get your own gloves as part of that. If you’d prefer to book ad-hoc classes or go for the Prize Fighter membership, you can purchase your own pair from the team. Ideal for practicing your punches at home.

THE CLASS
The boxing classes start with a series of different punches, getting warmed up and learning the different strikes, before moving on to a faster pace mixed with harder shots.
From there, we moved into core, focusing on building those abs. From sit-ups to planks, leg raises to flutter kicks, this section really gets your core engaged.
Finally, there’s a cardio section, using the high-tech machines Burnout Boxing has – treadmills for sprinting, climbers, skiers and bikes. Here we did a mixture of lower-effort and full sprints, pushing ourselves as hard as we could.
The class rotated through these sections and before we knew it, we were finished. I’ve been to a few classes now, and each one has had a different format and mix of boxing, cardio, and core, to keep the workout fresh and engaging.
WHY I’ll BE BACK TO BURNOUT BOXING
I made the most of my week’s free trial to attend a few classes and enjoyed each one. The classes are short enough to be easy to make time for, and afterwards, you feel the endorphins and the success of achievement and movement. An added benefit is being part of a community, and seeing the same people at classes and working out together.

Maximum Fitness
The free week trial also gives you access to Maximum Fitness, run by the same team, offering more strength-based and high-intensity training. Combining both Burnout Boxing and bootcamps at Maximum Fitness would tick a lot of exercise boxes – strength training and cardio being the key two.
The bootcamps are also run in half-hour slots throughout the day and are led by a team of personal trainers, so you’ll be guided through each class. We’re yet to try these, but we’ll report back when we do.
Whatever your fitness aim is, giving Burnout Boxing a try is worth it. Reach out to the team for any questions or pop me an email or DM if you want to chat about it – maybe we’ll see you there?
