Ladies and gentlemen, foodies and fun-seekers – hold onto your top hats because Nest, Newcastle, has officially blown the big top off fine dining.

Their brand-new carnival-themed tasting menu experience is in town but only for a limited time. And trust us – you don’t want to miss it.

It’s culinary theatre with a delicious twist – easily the most fun and playful Newcastle tasting menu we’ve ever had.

STEP RIGHT UP FOR A SPECTACLE OF FLAVOUR

Running through June and July, Nest’s carnival dining experience brings plenty of flavour, magic and imaginative presentation to Chillingham Road.

With tented décor, playful plating and a surprise or two along the way (yes, there’s live entertainment), this is fine dining… but make it fun.

THE FIRST ACT

Your edible adventure kicks off with a playful nod to carnival snacking – Roll Up, Roll Up – nachos loaded with broad bean guac, pico de gallo and cheese sauce. Bold, bright and the perfect curtain-raiser for what’s to come.

Then, Close But No Cigar – Jerusalem artichoke cannelloni served in a cigar box – adds a smoky, earthy elegance to the performance. It’s theatre on a plate and we couldn’t get enough.

THE SHOW MUST GO ON

Next up: The Plot Chickens – a crispy BBQ chicken drumstick with black garlic and mint that’s served looking like it’s just come off a flaming grill. It’s sticky, smoky and finger-lickin’ posh.

Veggies, fear not. You’ll be treated to Cauli-Power – golden fried cauliflower with the same punchy garlic and mint flavours.

MIDWAY TREATS AND SHOW-STOPPER PLATES

Things only get more playful as you go. You’ll then be served the Dinky Pinky Doughnut – a sweet-meets-savoury delight of beetroot and goat’s cheese, dusted with beetroot sugar and served in a nostalgic carnival bag.

Then comes the seafood centrepiece: Little Fluffy Clouds – seabream ceviche with strawberry ponzu and Scottish strawberries. A whimsical, summery, slightly candyfloss creation. It looked almost too good to eat.

Or go veggie with Kohlrabi Ceviche, for a similarly zingy, playful twist.

And just when you think it’s peaked – enter Foie Mardi Gras. A salt-aged sirloin, with brioche, celeriac and a foie gras parfait – what can only be described as the most extra and delicious deconstructed steak sandwich you’ll ever try – it’s worth a standing ovation.

Veggie version? All the Fungi of the Fair featuring BBQ maitake mushrooms, brioche and a dreamy mushroom parfait.

INTERLUDE: A SURPRISE STAR

Mid-meal, the lights dip. Carnival music plays. A surprise guest (complete with pinstripes) struts out, delivering a live performance right and you’ve got front row seat – we told you it’s immersive.

The special guest will bring Ice Scream for Ice Cream to your table – a nostalgic hit of mango ice cream, topped with hundreds and thousands and a chocolate straw.

CURTAIN CALLS

Then, the grand finale: Trick or Treacle. A warm, sticky treacle tart with honey chantilly that tastes like your childhood favourite.

Don’t want to fun feast to end? Why not add on the cheese board packed with local and continental cheeses, house chutney, frozen grapes and “bits & bats.” The perfect encore.

DRINKS PAIRINGS WORTH A DRUMROLL

Why not add a drinks flight on and each course gets a liquid pairing that’s as clever as the food – from English chardonnay to raspberry coladas.

JOIN THE CULINARY CARNIVAL BEFORE IT LEAVES TOWN

Whether you go all-in for the full £75 evening tasting or pop in for the £49 lunch, one thing’s for sure – this is a dining experience that you won’t find in any other Newcastle restaurants.
