NORTHUMBERLAND WALKS TO ADD TO YOUR SUMMER PLANS


HUMBLETON HILL
Distance: 4.6 miles (7.2 km)
Duration: 3.5 hours
A perfect half-day family-friendly walk to the top of an Iron Age hillfort, offering panoramic views of the Cheviots. There’s a shorter 4.25-mile version if you’re walking with little legs.
Cap off your climb with a locally inspired Sunday lunch at Ad Gefrin’s Bēodern. Think sirloin beef, lamb with braised cabbage or a butternut squash and mushroom pithivier – all served with crispy roasties, Yorkshire puddings and seasonal veg.

YEAVERING BELL – THE HILL OF THE GOATS
Distance: 3.5 miles (5.6 km)
Duration: 3 hours
This beautiful walk from Wooler rewards you with sweeping views and a chance to spot the wild Cheviot goats. It’s steeped in history and surrounded by natural beauty.
Why not grab a brunch at Bēodern at Ad Gefrin before you set off – served Monday to Saturday, 10–11:45am. Avocado toast, bacon rolls or a classic Eggs Benedict? Yes, please.

WOOLER COMMON AND CAREY BURN CIRCULAR
Distance: 4.5 miles (7.2 km)
Duration: 3 hours
Enjoy forest paths, valley views and cascading waterfalls. This is perfect if you’re up for a challenge; this short trail includes a steep stretch before bringing you back to Wooler.
After your walk, stay for Bēodern by Night – an intimate dinner service at Ad Gefrin’s restaurant (Thurs – Sat). Indulge in wild game terrine, salmon with confit fennel or a whisky crème brûlée in a candle-lit setting – date day and night goals.

COLLEGE VALLEY
Distance: 4.75 miles (7.6 km)
Duration: 3.5 hours
This tranquil route winds through woodland and riverside paths, with possible sightings of Cheviot goats and otters near College Burn. A walk that really feeds the soul.
Talking of feeding, after your walk, we’re sure you’ll have worked up an appetite. Pop into Bēodern at Ad Gefrin for a spot of lunch until 5pm, Mon–Sat (last food orders 3:30pm). Tuck into local favourites like lamb stew, slow-cooked ox cheek and Eyemouth haddock with chips.

HARTHOPE VALLEY
Distance: 4 miles (6.4 km)
Duration: 3 hours
This peaceful walk is all about beautiful landscapes and unforgettable views. Follow the Harthope Burn through lush valleys framed by the Cheviots. Ideal for a peaceful afternoon stroll.
Why not treat yourself to an afternoon tea at Ad Gefrin after? You deserve it. Make sure your time it right as it’s available the last Saturday of each month (booking essential). Think delicate finger sandwiches, warm scones and a touch of Northumbrian finest food.

THE CHEVIOT
Distance: 8.1 miles (13 km)
Duration: 6 hours
If you’re up for a challenge… The Cheviot is the highest peak in Northumberland and well worth the climb if you’re looking for a challenge. Here’s one of our fave routes.
