Is there anything better than tucking into a hearty portion of fish and chips whilst looking at the North East coastline?
We’re lucky enough to have some of the UK’s best seaside food spots right on our doorstep, offering not just incredible seafood, but beautiful views to match.
Here are some of our favourite spots across the region.

Colman’s Seafood Temple
Sea Road, South Shields, NE33 2LD
Located on South Shields’ seafront, this impressive restaurant offers panoramic views of Sandhaven Beach and the North Sea. The Colman family’s journey began in 1905 with a small shack on South Shields beach, and their expansion to this premise on Sea Road has been the perfect addition to the coast. Offering a diverse menu that honours traditional British seafood, Colman’s offers menu items such as scampi and chips to seafood jungle curry; something for everyone to enjoy.

Riley’s Fish Shack
King Edward’s Bay, Tynemouth, NE30 4BY
Nestled in King Edward’s Bay, this unique eatery is the perfect place to enjoy some local seafood with a view. Renowned for its commitment to fresh, locally sourced seafood, this place is the ideal spot to start your weekend with a little bit of luxury. The Magpie Cafe

This beloved family-run spot has been satisfying both locals and visitors to the coast since 1939. With its prime location and picturesque view of the harbour, The Magpie Café is a true icon of the town. Cafe Needles Eye

This spot is located on the sands of Newbiggin-by-the-Sea, offering freshly cooked comfort food from smoked haddock fish cakes to Shetland mussels; there is something for everyone on the menu. Since opening in 2023, Cafe Needles Eye has been housed in a stylish, wooden-clad repurposed shipping container right on the beach, offering panoramic sea views for you to take in with your plate of seafood goodness. And if you’re feeling a little more adventurous, why not try out their sauna and hydrotherapy before your food of choice?
