Free yoga, kayaking, cake decorating and more – NE1’s Summer in the City is back

Sunshine, iconic views and a jam-packed schedule of fun, free things to do? That’s exactly what NE1’s Summer in the City is bringing back to Newcastle this year.

Since 2021, the city centre champions have been curating a fun line-up of outdoor events and interactive experiences to help locals and visitors make the most of the summer holidays. And this year’s programme is bigger, better, and more vibrant than ever.

Running throughout the six-week holidays, the line-up features everything from yoga and HIIT classes to music workshops and kayaking on the Tyne, all completely free to attend. Designed to get people into the city, support local businesses and give everyone a reason to try something new, there’s truly something for all ages and interests.

“These events are designed to be inclusive, creative and fun – and a great excuse to get involved in the buzz of the city,”

- Rachel Fenwick, Head of Marketing and Events at NE1.

And the best part? These sessions always book up fast – last year, the entire programme was snapped up in under five days. So if something takes your fancy, be quick…

Here’s a look at what’s in store this summer:

Kayak on the Tyne

Paddle your way between the Tyne and Millennium Bridges with CBK Adventures, who are back again this year to deliver one of the city’s most iconic summer experiences. Held over two days in small group sessions, this is your chance to take in unbeatable views of the Quayside from the water – all for free.

Little Beethoven Music Sessions

Let the kids unleash their inner Mozart with Little Beethoven’s fun and interactive music workshops. Taking place on the Quayside, children will have the chance to learn instruments like the keyboard and ukulele in an accessible, engaging environment.
