Durham Distillery was created with the aim of creating real and good spirits from an urban distillery – one that truly celebrates the historic city of Durham that it’s based in. This is so much the case that the Durham Distillery logo, the ‘roundel’ is a modern representation of the Rose Window of Durham Cathedral. The team are running a modern business with traditional spirit – working closely with the city’s local businesses and events, and being transparent with everything – even their methods, which are published on their website.
These drinks not only celebrate this majestic city, they also taste amazing. Mango Gin? Can’t beat it – do you even need a mixer? Then there’s their key spirit, the Durham Gin. This uses 10 different botanicals, some traditional, some unique ones, and also uses fresh spring water sourced from a natural spring near Durham City. These drinks are an ideal present for any gin lovers, or those who feel that special connection to Durham.Shop Now

The Borders Distillery
The Borders Distillery began their distilling journey in 2018, and are dedicated to capturing the true spirit of the Borders, bringing whisky-making back to the region.
Their award-winning Gin and Vodka hold unique flavours that will make you think twice about what you know about spirits. They use the same spirit from their Single Malt Whisky to make their Gin and Vodka, and whilst they wait for their Whisky to mature, they’re exploring new flavours of the Scottish Borders.
The Borders Distillery is committed to building sustainability in everything they do; they use locally-grown barley, all harvested from 11 farms lying within 30 miles of the distillery, drawing water from an underground lake beneath the site. The company is a member of the Scotch Whisky Association’s Race to Zero programme, as they actively work towards moving the industry to net-zero by 2040.
You can shop, explore and taste the wonders of The Borders Distillery on site, as their distillery is back open for business – they’d love to show you around! Book a tour or treat a loved one (or yourself!) to their collection of Scottish spirits. Shop the full range online, including a variety of hampers and gifts perfect for the festive season.Shop Now
A firm favourite of HLN from day one, Baristocracy Coffee is a small, family-run speciality coffee roasting business based in North Shields.
Alex and Kate started their business in 2017 after moving back to Kate’s hometown from Sydney, where Alex grew up, with the intention of bringing speciality roast coffee to the North East. This dynamic duo are keen on supporting the coffee industry across the world, only buying specialty grade green coffee, grown by fairly-paid farmers imported by companies that work directly with and in support of growers.
Alex roasts each different bean to bring out their natural flavours and create a cup of depth and complexity. We now supply some of the best cafes, delis and venues in the North East and our coffee is available online for home use. The roastery is also open to the public for coffee by the cup and bag and for home barista training.Shop Now
Devon Rum Company
Established in March 2020 by Dave Seear, the Devon Rum Company was created to share the joy of craft rums with the world!
With an emphasis on blending unique flavours that stand out from the crowd, the Devon Rum Co team is on a mission to show spirit lovers why craft rum is amazing, what makes it so different from mass-produced spirits, and why everyone should try it – even if it does cost a few extra quid!
The Devon Rum Company’s best-selling Premium Spiced Rum features rich aromas of charred orange peel, smooth caramel, and hints of cardamom. This is a drier spiced rum, with a warm crackle of cinnamon and tangy star anise, followed by fresh citrus zest, a touch of maple syrup and a smack of peppercorn.
As the latest addition to the range, the Honey Spiced Rum features light floral notes, with undertones of spicy cardamom and fruity raisins. This is a sweeter rum, infused with Devon wildflower honey, twists of lemon zest, juicy raisins, and a generous pinch of allspice.
And, just in time for Christmas, these flavoursome rums are now flanked by a selection of must-have gifts for rum fans, including a Cocktail Kit that contains everything you need to create the brand’s delicious Devon Stormy rum cocktail.Shop Now
Geordie Gin was born from North East-born founders Geoff Graydon and Stu Lamb, over what else but a just-finished G&T. The duo had one goal in mind: to create a luxury boutique spirit up to the high standard of Newcastle gin drinkers.
As long-time gin drinkers, they’d often felt that ones they drank weren’t quite up to scratch, and with Stu being an ex-chemist and an experienced brewer, they thought it shouldn’t be too hard to make a superior one.
And so they did – a lovely gin that celebrates the North East.
Take it from us at HLN, you’ll want to get a bottle of this in your basket ASAP.
Looking for something different? Following the success of their original Geordie Gin they created The Old Dunelmian. A mint base gin, with a twist. Simply add elderflower tonic and you get a blackcurrant gin taste. How about that?Shop Now
