Gathering light: A Bronze Age Golden Sun – Sunderland Museum And Winter Gardens

February 25, 10:00 am - June 3, 4:00 pm

Free
A golden pendant made from sheet gold is displayed against a black background. It has an intricate geometric pattern carved into it. This is the Shropshire sun pendant, which is around three thousand years old.

The 3,000-year-old gold bulla known as the Shropshire sun pendant is one of the most significant pieces of Bronze Age metalwork ever discovered in Britain.

This British Museum’s Spotlight Loan reveals the importance of the sun to the lives of our Bronze Age ancestors.

There will also be other incredible Bronze Age gold artefacts on display, such as a gold lunula discovered in an Irish bog and a hoard of Cornish gold torcs and rings.
