Baristocracy Coffee

Baristocracy Coffee is a small, family-run speciality coffee roasting business based in North Shields.

Alex and Kate started their business in 2017 after moving back to Kate’s hometown from Sydney, where Alex grew up. Alex’s parents have a thriving coffee roastery and cafe where Alex learned the craft of speciality coffee roasting.

Alex has spent most of his life in the speciality coffee business; judging at the World Barista Championships, training professional baristas and roasting and brewing coffee. They only buy speciality grade green coffee, grown by fairly-paid farmers imported by companies that work directly with and in support of growers.

Alex roasts each different bean to bring out their natural flavours and create a cup of depth and complexity. They now supply some of the best cafes, delis and venues in the North East (including HLN fav Rustic Cup in Whitley Bay) and their coffee is available online for home use.

The duo open the doors to their roastery to the public twice a week, so customers can chat to Alex about the coffee, sample it for themselves and enjoy some treats in the cafe.
