Turner: Art, Industry & Nostalgia – Laing Art Gallery

The Laing Art Gallery will showcase more than 20 works by Joseph Mallord William Turner – one of Britain’s most prolific painters.

His famous painting The Fighting Temeraire (1839) will take centre stage at the exhibiton. The piece is a tribute to the ship HMS Temeraire, which played a significant role in The Battle of Trafalgar and was pulled by two tugboats built in Tyneside.

Explore two galleries of works by Turner, learning more about his life, career and the rise of steam power and industry in Britain. You can also enjoy displays from other artists, including Tacita Dean, Chris Killip and L.S. Lowry.
