From epic action adventures from the MCU and The Hunger Games franchises, a huge historical biopic from Ridley Scott and a brand new Disney, you’ll need your popcorn at the ready this month.

It looks like November is going to be another really great month for cinema releases.

We have action adventure with The Marvels and The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.Ridley Scott and Joaquin Phoenix re-team for historical action epic Napoleon. And we also have a film we think the whole family will enjoy, with Disney’s latest animated offering Wish…

The Marvels

You can always rely on the MCU for an entertaining superhero adventure, and their latest looks set to continue that trend.

The Marvels follows Carol Danvers, who is also known as Captain Marvel (played by Brie Larson) who has reclaimed her identity from the tyrannical Kree and taken her revenge on the Supreme Intelligence. But unintended consequences see Carol shouldering the burden of a destabilized universe.

When her duties send her to an anomalous wormhole linked to a Kree revolutionary, her powers become entangled with those of Kamala Khan – AKA Ms Marvel (Iman Vellani) – and Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris), forcing them to team up and determine why they are swapping places with each other every time they use their powers.

Oh, and they have to save the universe while they’re at it…

Anatomy Of A Fall

A psychological thriller and winner of the Palme d’Or.

In Anatomy Of A Fall, we follow Sandra, a celebrated writer, who is put on trial when her husband Samuel falls to his death from their secluded chalet. An investigation soon leads to a conclusion that the death is suspicious and that it’s impossible to know for sure whether he took his own life or he was killed.

To make matters more complicated, the couple’s partially sighted young son, Daniel, is embroiled in a moral dilemma as the sole witness to the event. As the toll of the trail drags on, the relationship between mother and son is pushed to breaking point.

Dream Scenario

Personally, I’m really excited to see Dream Scenario. The legend that is Nicolas Cage haunting people’s dreams?! Count me in.

Hapless family man Paul Matthews (Cage) finds his life has been turned upside down when millions of strangers suddenly start seeing him in their dreams. However, when his nightime appearances take a nightmarish turn, Paul is forced to navigate his newfound stardom.

This being a Nicolas Cage movie, expect things to get weird and wacky. And if you want even more action from the legendary actor, be sure to check out Butcher’s Crossing available on Amazon Prime now.

Saltburn

Struggling to find his place at Oxford, student Oliver Quick (Barry Keoghan, The Banshees of Inisherin) finds himself drawn into the world of his charming and aristocratic classmate, Felix Catton, (Jacob Elordi – look out for him in the upcoming film Priscilla, in which he plays Elvis).

As Felix invites Oliver to his rather eccentric family’s estate for the holidays, the pair experience a summer never to be forgotten.

Written and directed by Emerald Fennell (of Promising Young Woman fame) this promises to be another knockout from a director who is surely one to watch in the future.

The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes

Years before he became the tyrannical President of Panem, young Coriolanus Snow (Tom Blyth) sees a chance to change his fortunes when he is chosen to be a mentor to Lucy Gray Baird (Rachel Zegler), the girl chosen for tribute in the 10th Hunger Games tournament.

Director Francis Lawrence, who helmed the original movies (with Jennifer Lawrence as young hero Katniss Everdeen) returns to directing duties for this one. The cast also includes Jason Schwartzman, Peter Dinklage and Viola Davis and is based on Suzanne Collin’s 2020 novel of the same name.

Though The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes wasn’t as big a hit as The Hunger Games trilogy, it clearly sets the foundation for a new series set in the dystopian world of Panem and I have to say, I’m here for it.

Thanksgiving

Halloween may be over for another year, but that doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy yet another horror movie… After all, who says spooky season has to end?!

After a Black Friday riot ends in tragedy, a mysterious Thanksgiving-inspired killer terrorizes Plymouth, Massachusetts, which just so happens to be the birthplace of the infamous holiday.

The cast includes Patrick Dempsey and Gina Gershon among others, while the flick is directed by Eli Roth – who’s previous horror movies include Cabin Fever, Hostel and The Green Inferno, to name but a few.

Napoleon

22^nd November

This spectacle-filled action epic follows the rise and fall of the iconic French Emperor known as Napoleon Bonaparte, played by Oscar winner Joaquin Phoenix.

Following his infamous journey to power and showcasing his visionary military and political tactics against some of the most dynamic battle sequences ever put to the big screen, Napoleon is the latest labour of love from acclaimed filmmaker (and Geordie) Ridley Scott – who’s other hit films include Alien, Blade Runner and Gladiator, to name but a few.

This one deserves to be seen in IMAX when it’s released later this month.

WISH

24^th November  

The latest animated adventure from Disney is an all-new musical comedy, where we journey to the magical kingdom of Rosas.

Here we meet Asha (Ariana DeBose), a young ,sharp-witted idealist who makes a wish so powerful that it is answered by a cosmic force which just so happens to be a little ball of energy called Star.

Together, Asha and Star confront a formidable foe King Magnifico (Chris Pine), the ruler of Rosas, to save her community and prove that when the will of one brave human connects with the magic of the stars, the most wondrous things can happen.

If you love modern Disney hits like Frozen, Encanto and Raya and the Last Dragon, this will be another fave to add to your ever-growing collection.
