Got any plans for April 24th or 25th? If not, you’re in luck because Rambert Dance Company is making its grand return to Newcastle Theatre Royal with an absolute showstopper – Death Trap.

If you’ve caught their act before, you know you’re in for a treat. And if you haven’t, well, this is your last chance to catch them as Death Trap will conclude its European tour at Newcastle Theatre Royal.

But what’s Death Trap all about? Expect a concoction of dance, storytelling, and characters, all blended into one unforgettable evening at the theatre.

Ben Duke, the mastermind behind Lost Dog, is the brains behind this showcase that brings together Goat (2017) and Cerberus (2022).

This show isn’t your average dance performance. It will take you on a journey through a darkly funny, irresistibly stylish world, with twists and turns that’ll keep you on the edge of your seat. Plus, there’s live music courtesy of an on-stage band, adding an extra layer to the whole experience.

Now, let’s talk about the pieces themselves. There’s Goat, which draws inspiration from the legendary Nina Simone. With iconic tunes like Feeling Good and Ain’t Got No/I Got Life, it’s a celebration of her spirit and her music.

Then there’s Cerberus, a reimagining of the Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice. But here’s the twist: in this world, dance isn’t just an art form, it’s a matter of life and death. It’s a poignant exploration of myth, mortality, and everything in between, complete with funeral couture.

And the performers? They are a really talented group. With well-known names like Adél Bálint, Angélique Blasco, and Dylan Tedaldi among others, you know you’re in for a treat. They have poured their hearts and souls into bringing Ben Duke’s vision to life – and it shows.

High Life North

‘We’re thrilled to take Rambert back on the road and this new evening in collaboration with Ben Duke is a great opportunity to connect with new and returning audiences across the country and beyond,’ says Helen Shute, CEO and Executive Producer of Rambert.

And of this new collaboration with Rambert, Choreographer Ben Duke says ‘The work I make is always inspired by and made with the performers and it is a privilege to find myself in a room with these exceptional artists. Their diversity of background means that they bring such a richness of experience into the space, and it is their talent and generosity that really make this work.’

So, what are you waiting for? Grab your tickets now before it’s too late, either online or give the box office a ring at 0191 232 7010.
