We love these places for brunch in Sunderland
At High Life North, we’re obsessed with brunch.
Whether it’s bottomless brunch vibes or wholesome avo on toast catch-ups – for us, it’s a weekend staple.
We’ve rounded up our favourite places for brunch in Sunderland – from stacked sourdough to tunacado doops and everything in between…
Café Floriana, Sunderland
1-2 Burdon Road, Sunderland, SR1 1QB
Owners Kate and Emilia opened Café Floriana just last weekend and it’s the most beautiful addition to Sunderland’s brunch scene. With gluten-free and vegan options available, expect dishes like crispy serrano bagel, hot halloumi sourdough and harissa baked beans, as well as cakes and bakes. It’s dog-friendly and for now, bring your own booze with a £2 corkage per person.
HLN Top Tip: Molly is obsessed with the Biscoff Iced Latte.
Ruhe, Roker
Roker Park, Sunderland, SR6 9PL
If, like us, you’re obsessed with the tunacado from Joe and the Juice, we’re about to answer your prayers. Ruhe in Roker Park, Sunderland, has the ultimate doop. We want it every day. Other top hitters are the Amalfi Sando (meat, balsamic honey, parmesan – yes) and the Garlic Sando with pulled chicken, garlic mayo and crispy onions. Great food, great vibes.
Salt House Kitchen, Seaburn
6 Queen’s Parade, Seaburn, Sunderland, SR6 8DA
This place has it all. An Instagrammable aesthetic, beachfront location and some of the best poached eggs around. The menu is extensive, the atmosphere is laid back and we love following a long walk with The Salt House Breakfast.
HLN Top Tip – Dogs are welcome in their outdoor seating area and there’s even a doggy breakfast menu.
Love Lily, Sunderland
1 Pier Point, Marine Walk, Roker, Sunderland SR6 0PP
This very popular spot can be found both at Seaburn and in Herrington Country Park. Famous for their amazing cakes and mouth-watering stacks of pancakes. We recommend the Biscoff Hot Chocolate and USA Breakfast. It’s a hearty combination but there’s either the beach or a lovely country park to walk it off after so you can walk it off.
HLN Top Tip – There are often long queues so arrive early to avoid the crowd.
Smugglers Coffee Co, Sunderland
25 St. Lukes Terrace, Sunderland, SR4 6NQ
If you’re in the city centre and looking for the best coffee and bagel combination that Sunderland has to offer, then Smugglers is for you. With an impressive menu, there’s something for everyone at Smugglers Coffee Co – think breaded chicken, cheese, sriracha, mayo and chilli jam. These bagels are seriously packed with flavour and it’s a great place to fuel up before hitting the shops.
HLN Top Tip – If you fancy something different for brunch try the Zinger Bagel which has just the right amount of spice.
Blacks Corner, The Tram Shelter, Seaburn
Cliffe Park, Whitburn Road, Seaburn, Sunderland, SR6 8AB
Looking for a fancy brunch? Perhaps it’s time for a romantic day date or a get-together with the girls? Blacks Corner – The Tram Shelter offers the perfect combination of delicious food and a luxurious atmosphere, plus it’s perfectly located on Seaburn beachfront so you can combine a seaside stroll with your brunch. Dogs are welcome in their bar and garden areas.
HLN Top Tip – The Roker Rarebit is a delicious brunch exclusive to this venue.
