The benefits of colouring to relieve anxiety

According to Beaumont Health, colouring has the ability to relax the fear centre of your brain, the amygdala. It induces the same state as meditating by reducing thoughts, generating mindfulness and quietness which allows your mind to get some rest.

Many of us are consumed with thoughts of worry, uncertainty and unrest in these difficult times. We’ll be providing a range of colouring designs (which are suitable for both children and adults) and activity sheets for children to help keep busy minds distracted for a little while.

Blinking in the sun

South Tyneside artist and teacher Sheila Graber has created colouring sheets inspired by well-known artists to download for free from South Shields Museum’s website. This one is inspired by popular north east artist Ralph Hedley’s famous painting in Newcastle’s Laing Art Gallery, ‘Blinking in the Sun’.
