Whether you’re a big kid at heart or have fun-loving little ones in your life, we’ve found the newest go-to spot, just in time for the summer holidays.
Whatever your age or ability Sunderland BID and Sunderland City Council invite you to pull on your skates and glide around Sunderland’s newest roller rink at Keel Square from 22nd July to 4th September.
Come rain or shine, the rink that’s designed perfectly for our unpredictable weather thanks to the giant marquee that will be open for beginners and experts alike to dance, skate and party this summer.
With bangers from across the decades spun from the booming DJ booth, there are hours of fun to be had here no matter what your age. And watch this space as Summer in the City programme hopes to offer a range of themed public sessions themed including, the 80s, 90s and beyond, along with allocated slots for group and private bookings – especially good for birthdays!

The rink is part of Sunderland’s Summer in the City programme of activities and entertainment set up by Sunderland BID and Sunderland City Council with plenty more in the pipeline over the summer holidays, We’re talking appearances by magical characters, free workshops, kids’ clubs and an augmented reality trail.
Keel Square will also be host to a Pop-Up Park, with kid-friendly entertainment from 11am to 3pm on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays all throughout the summer holidays.

On Mondays, the young ones can enjoy the Fun in the SUN sessions, on Wednesdays will be the Sunderland “Taste” Experience, with cooking demos, grow-your-own sessions and other healthy-eating-inspired fun. Saturdays will host the Wake-up, Shake-up sessions, with super-fun, physical activities, sports games and other keep-fit entertainment.

Sharon Appleby, Chief Executive of Sunderland BID, said she was ‘delighted to be able to bring the roller rink to the city,’ and hopes as many people as possible will come along and give it a try.
‘It’ll be housed in a fantastic giant marquee and there will be a real party vibe,’ she said. ‘So, I’d urge everyone – whether they’ve roller skated before or not, to come along and have a go.’

How much will the roller rink cost?
The roller rink tickets cost £10 for adults, £8 for five to 17-year-olds, £4 for those aged four and under and £28 for a family ticket. Prices include the hire of roller boots, kneepads and helmets but you can also bring your own to use.
When will the rink be open?
The roller rink will be open from 11am to 8pm on 22nd July to 4th September at Keel Square (SR1 3DZ)
