Self-care is something we all often forget to focus on.

Time spent away from the hustle and bustle of city life to connect with nature is more powerful than we realise. And we know just the secluded escape.

Where the wild, whimsical wonders of the Western Lake District meet a luxury stay – a wellness break at 1692 Wasdale, Lake District is something else.

Imagine soaking in a hot tub watching the sunset over the beautiful Wasdale Valley while sipping on a glass of wine before sinking into a fluffy mattress – sounds dreamy, right?

This family-run, six-bed boutique bed and breakfast is nestled in the beautiful, dramatic and rural area of the Western Lake District, a world away from the Lake District’s busy, southern tourist parts. Here you’ll find England’s deepest lake – Wastwater, England’s highest mountain the iconic Scafell Pike and plenty of walks and outdoor activities to discover.

Whether you’re after a romantic retreat with your special someone or fancy exclusive hire of the accommodation for up to 12 people, the team will do all they can to tailor your stay to meet all your personal needs – plus, dogs are welcome too in some of the rooms.

Think high, beamed ceilings and exposed stonework complemented by under-floor heated timber floors and flagstones with sheepskin bedside rugs, unique and cosy stay perfect to unwind, rest and recharge in the remote, rugged and tranquil part of The Lake District National Park.

HLN TOP TIP: Make sure you visit the onsite farm’s resident alpacas.

Home to six modern, luxurious, well-appointed super-king en-suite bedrooms, each with its own unique layout and décor complete with luxury handmade beds, crisp white bed linen, feather-light duvets and Herdwick sheepskin rugs.

A break at 1692 Wasdale feels like a home away from home with the added touch of luxury as each suite has a contemporary bathroom with a walk-in shower, large soft Egyptian cotton towels, complimentary toiletries, a heated floor, a seating area and their own patio with mountain or sea views.

There’s a large lounge with comfortable seating, a contemporary open fire to cosy up around and a piano. As you walk through, you’ll find a stylish dining room and outside courtyard.

Start your day the right way with a delicious continental breakfast buffet, where fresh fruit, juices, yogurt and freshly baked bread and pastries are available. And if you love nothing more than a traditional full English breakfast, you’re in luck, as cooked breakfasts are served in the dining room, courtyard (on sunny days) or through room service if required. And why not add a glass of Buck’s Fizz if you fancy – you’re on holiday after all? Plus, packed lunches can be ordered a day ahead to fuel your days of exploring.

‘The Western Lake District is truly a hidden gem of untouched beauty. Our luxury B&B is nestled in the charming Wasdale Valley, which still brings me great joy to open our guests’ eyes (old and new) to the wonders that await them here, says Faith Newell, Owner of 1692 Wasdale. ‘There’s something special about showcasing the raw, rugged nature of the fells in Wasdale and Eskdale, especially when compared to the more well-known locations in the Lake District. So join us and let yourself be captivated by the dramatic beauty and unspoiled wilderness of the Western Lake District. It’s an experience you won’t soon forget.’
