Grantley Hall is a hidden jewel found in the Yorkshire Dales where you can escape to tranquillity just 30 mins from Newcastle.

Offering 47 exquisite bedrooms, three stunning bars and five indulgent restaurants – including Michelin-starred chef Shaun Rankin – this is a luxurious stay that you’ll definitely won’t forget any time soon.

One of Grantley Hall’s popular bars and restaurants is EightyEight which offers a unique fusion of Yorkshire’s finest produce and far Eastern flavours. With stylish design-led décor set against the stunning backdrop of ornamental Japanese Gardens, Bar & Restaurant EighyEight is more than just a restaurant – it’s an experience.

And now Samira Effa will be joining the talented team as head chef and is set to enhance the experience by bringing new taste sensations to the menu. With a wealth of experience in various Michelin-star restaurants and working as a senior production chef at TRUEfoods, developing premium products for the food and restaurant industry, Samira is set to spice things up.

Recognised for her culinary talents, Samira competed in the BBC’s series of the Great British Menu in 2019 and 2020, where she showcased great Yorkshire produce, her love of diverse cooking techniques and her favourite flavours which come from her mixed parentage thanks to her Iranian mother and Nigerian father.

‘I’m honoured for the opportunity and so excited to be joining the Bar & Restaurant EightyEight team and know that with my breadth of knowledge across the industry, I’m ready to showcase some exciting flavours and bring new ideas to the EightyEight menu,’ says Samira.

‘I’ve always had a passion for food and with my parent’s rich backgrounds, it was common for us at home to cook together using traditional Iranian and Nigerian recipes – both of which are bursting with flavour’, Samira adds. ‘I can’t wait to get stuck in at EightyEight and bring my own flair to the restaurant which I know is a popular spot for hotel guests and diners alike.’

Where East meets West and energetic city dining meets the picturesque Yorkshire countryside, EightyEight is a visual and experiential treat. The EightyEight team of dynamic chefs are known for bringing a new and vibrant take on a traditional Sunday Lunch and Sunday Sharer’s menu perfect to enjoy with friends and family.

‘We’re thrilled to welcome Samira to the Grantley Hall family and are very excited to see what she brings to Bar & Restaurant EightyEight,’ Simon Crannage, executive head chef at Grantley Hall added. ‘Samira has an exceptional culinary track record, along with having a genuine passion and love for food that I know will translate into her dishes for our diners to enjoy.’
