Baristocracy share their pumpkin spice latte recipe that takes our favourite autumnal drink to the next level

The North Shields speciality coffee roasters share their secret ingredient that makes this seasonal brew taste even better and healthier.

It’s official our favourite autumnal drink is back – the pumpkin spice latte (PSL), of course.

After waiting all year, cosy autumnal days are now upon us meaning it’s all about those cosy jumpers, fluffy coats and hot beverages warming up our cold hands – you can’t beat it, right?

There’s nothing better than the taste of a freshly brewed PSL. But Baristocracy has revealed their secret recipe that takes our favourite seasonal brew to the next level.

But how is this possible we hear you ask? Enter making your own pumpkin spice syrup. That’s the secret ingredient.

If you like your latte with a bit more body, add pumpkin puree to the mix and you’ll really taste the difference. Not only does this give a very filling, snack-like quality to your PSL but pumpkins are full of goodness, with a boost of vitamin A, vitamin K and vitamin E.

Here’s how to make pumpkin spiced latte…

Serves: 2 (8oz cups)

INGREDIENTS

4 shots of espresso (we recommend Baristocracy Ethiopia, Colombia and Guatamala blend)

360ml whole milk or plant-based alternative

2 tablespoons of pumpkin puree

½ tablespoon of maple syrup (or more to taste)

½ teaspoon of pumpkin pie spice

½ teaspoon of vanilla extract

Cinnamon and brown sugar for sprinkling

METHOD

Mix pumpkin, maple syrup, pumpkin pie spice and vanilla together until smooth.

Divide into two cups

Pour double shots of espresso over the combined ingredients and mix until smooth

Steam milk until shiny and silky

Pour a little textured milk into each cup and mix into the pumpkin/espresso mixture

When combined, pour the rest of the milk into each cup

Top with a little cinnamon and brown sugar
