We’re into the season of love this year. Here are the alternative and fun events we’ve got on our radar.

Valentines Blue Morpho butterfly pinning and prosecco

Where: The Junkyard, Newcastle

In this workshop you’ll discover the basics of preparing, setting & preserving a series of amazing butterfuly specimens. You’ll learn the techniques of pinning 2 Morpho butterflies and some other smaller butterflies too. The Blue Morpho Butterfly is one of the most beautiful butterfly on the planet. It’s wingspan reaching up to 6 inches…such a wonderful natural beauty to admire and study. All curious creations you preserve get to come home with you – and last forever.

Cool local artist Enigma by Annie is hosting a Valentine’s Day card making workshop at one of our favourite venues for tunes and good vibes. Spend a Sunday afternoon listening to live acoustic music by Lottie Appleton while crafting heartfelt cards for your loved ones. All art supplies are included in the ticket price and you can make as many as you want.

Gothic Valentine’s Evening by Luna Night Market

Where: The Biscuit Factory, Ouseburn

When: Sunday 11th February, 5.00pm – 8.00pm

The Luna Night Market is hosting a one-of-a-kind Gothic Valentine’s event at The Biscuit Factory. There’ll be 45 unique and mysterious stalls, cocktails, street food and a burlesque show with a wicked twist. Must be 16+ to attend.

Make a glass Valentine’s heart at Sunderland Glass Centre

Where: Sunderland Glass Centre

When: Saturday 10th February and Sunday 11th February – various time slots

Make a unique gift for Valentine’s Day – made with your own fair hands. Guided by Sunderland Glass Centre’s experienced glass makers, you can get in on the action yourself and create a Valentine’s heart out of molten glass. Must be over 16.

Galentine’s Day: Clueless and cocktail masterclass

Where: Tyneside Cinema, Newcastle

When: Tuesday 13th February at 6.15pm

As if! As part of their Valentyneside season, Tyneside Cinema is hosting a cocktail masterclass hosted by their own mixologists, followed by a screening of the iconic 1995 comedy Clueless.

The joy of painting with Bob Ross, with a Valentine’s Day twist

Where: Tyne Bank Brewery

When: Wednesday 14th February, 7.00pm – 10.00pm

Grab a plus one and head to this super fun evening of creativity and joy at Tyne Bank Brewery this Valentine’s Day. Start with a welcome drink before the great Bob Ross fills the big screen to guide you through a painting session. Paintbrushes, paints and canvases are all provided. Over 18s only.

Valentine’s Day gin making masterclass for two

Where: Durham Distillery, Durham

Such a cute event for couples. Enjoy a G&T on arrival before spending 2.5 hours crafting and distilling your own gin as a pair, learning all about gin and tasting Durham Distillery’s signature spirits. Then relax for an hour enjoying Valentine’s cocktails with a sweet and savoury charcuterie board. You’ll leave with a goody bag each worth £40.00 and one 700ml bottle of your own gin to take home.
