HWKRMRKT is back – opening Easter weekend

HWKRMRKT – renamed as HWKRLAND – is coming back to Gateshead Quayside with a new lease of life.

Set to open on Easter weekend, from 5pm on Friday 29th March, our beloved street food and general good vibe hangout will be open again – and the new team is shaking it up.

Nestled beneath the iconic Tyne Bridge on Gateshead Quays, HWKRMRKT sadly closed its doors to the public last October due to the start of the refurbishment of the Tyne Bridge. Since repairs have moved along, the much-anticipated return of the beloved street food market is upon us – just in time for spring and summer.

The team behind the much-loved ‘By The River Brew Co’ and Michelin-Guide restaurant ‘Trakol’ has passed the baton onto well-known event pop-up operators EVNT Inspirations – best known for the alpine popup bar ‘Moosenwirt’.

With a wealth of experience behind them, the team is set to breathe a fresh feel and energy into the space, now reimagined as ‘HWKRLAND’.

Entertainment will be a huge part of the new concept, with the large LED screen showcasing major events from sports fixtures to the Eurovision, ensuring there will be something for everyone to enjoy. A dedicated stage will also host live entertainment, quizzes and Sunday markets.

HWKRLAND promises the street food, craft beers and cocktails we love, as well as a New-York-inspired micro pub, bottle shop and beer garden, stocking 40 independent beers and a selection of stouts. There will be new food traders as well as some original favourites and a fresh cocktail concept.

HWKRLAND is a family and dog-friendly venue and will be welcoming guests of all ages. HWKRLAND will officially open this Easter weekend from Good Friday, 29th March 2024 from 5pm.

Address: HWKRLAND, Hillgate Quays, Gateshead, NE8 2BH

Opening Hours:

  • Friday: 5pm – 12am
  • Saturday: 12pm – 12am
  • Sunday: 10pm – 6pm
  • (Bank Holiday Sunday: 12pm – 11pm)
